How it worked

We collected

Beach Cleans

There are a number of regular and ad hoc beach cleans in Brighton. The lovely people who coordinate them helped us by separating out the bottle tops they collected. People could also bring in anything they collected as individuals.

Council cleaning teams

The fantastic team from Cityclean, who are officially tasked with cleaning the beaches, also took the time to separate bottle tops. Considering just how much they have to do – especially in the summer – this was greatly appreciated.

Bottle top collection jars

Cafe, kiosk and restaurant owners right on the seafront hosted our bottle top collecting jars. They encouraged customers to put their bottle tops in there rather than in the bins or on the pebbles.

We counted

Volunteers helped us sort, count and record the bottle tops we collected. We recorded the source, brand and colour.

We made

Over the course of the project we held around 20 drop-in workshops at the very welcoming Volks Railway Visitor Centre.
